Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
Drain channels collect and direct wastewater from kitchen floors into the drainage system, preventing pooling and slip hazards. A continuous channel with a built-in fall towards the outlet ensures water flows steadily, while the side-mounted siphon traps odours and debris, keeping the kitchen hygienic and safe. The welded stainless steel construction resists corrosion and withstands heavy foot traffic and cleaning chemicals, making it suitable for high-demand environments like professional kitchens, food processing areas and commercial wash-down zones.
The channel is installed as a single unit, with side walls fitted with levelling pins to align the slope correctly. Water enters through a mesh grating, which filters out larger particles before they reach the siphon. The siphon itself connects to a DN100 stainless steel pipe with an external diameter of 108 mm, ensuring a secure and leak-proof link to the building's drainage network. The fall within the channel accelerates water flow, reducing standing water and the risk of bacterial growth.
Operation is straightforward: wastewater flows across the floor into the channel, passes through the grating, and travels along the sloped base to the siphon. The siphon's water seal blocks sewer gases from rising into the kitchen. When the grating is lifted, the channel and siphon can be inspected and cleaned without dismantling the unit.
Constructed from AISI 304 stainless steel, the channel is hermetically welded for strength and hygiene. The steel thickness ranges from 0.8 to 2.0 mm, providing durability without excessive weight. The flat channel design simplifies installation, while the side walls' levelling pins ensure the correct gradient is maintained. The outlet is positioned at the side, allowing the channel to be placed against walls or other structures without obstructing the drainage path.
Controls are minimal: the grating sits flush with the floor, and the siphon requires no adjustment once installed. The size of 2000 x 300 mm defines the area the channel covers, allowing it to serve large sections of a kitchen floor in a single run. The weight of the unit, determined by its stainless steel construction, ensures stability but may require two people to position during installation.
The channel is available with different edge profiles to match the surrounding floor finish: a standard profile for general use, a profile for vinyl flooring, and one for tiled floors. Optional mesh gratings come in smooth or anti-slip finishes, with varying mesh sizes to suit the type of debris expected in the kitchen. The choice of grating affects how easily water enters the channel and how often the grating needs cleaning.
Cleaning involves lifting the grating to access the channel and siphon. The smooth stainless steel surfaces allow for quick wiping or scrubbing, while the welded seams prevent dirt from accumulating in gaps. The siphon should be checked regularly to ensure the water seal is intact and the pipe is clear of blockages. The mesh grating can be removed and rinsed separately to maintain flow.
These drain channels are categorised under floor drainage systems for professional kitchens and commercial food service areas.
