Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
A floor drain channel collects and directs wastewater from kitchen floors into the drainage system. The channel is installed level with the floor surface, allowing water to flow along its sloped base towards a central outlet. A siphon beneath the outlet traps odours and prevents them from rising back into the kitchen, while the surrounding floor finish is sealed to the channel edges to keep water contained. This design ensures that spills, cleaning runoff and condensate are removed quickly, reducing slip hazards and maintaining hygiene in high-traffic areas.
The operator positions the channel in the floor recess, adjusts the levelling pins on the side walls to align the top edge with the surrounding floor, and secures the chosen edge profile. Once the floor finish is laid up to the channel, the outlet pipe is connected to the building's waste system. A mesh grating is placed over the channel to catch debris while allowing water to pass through. When cleaning is needed, the grating is lifted, and the channel interior is rinsed or brushed out.
Constructed from AISI 304 stainless steel, the channel is welded into a single hermetic unit with walls between 0.8 mm and 2.0 mm thick. The base slopes towards the central outlet, which is fitted with a siphon and a stainless steel pipe of 108 mm external diameter. Side walls include levelling pins for precise alignment with the finished floor level.
Edge profiles are available to match different floor finishes: a standard profile for general use, a profile for vinyl floors, and a profile for tiled floors. Optional mesh gratings come in smooth or anti-slip designs with varying mesh sizes to suit the type of debris expected in the area.
The 400 x 500 mm footprint determines the floor area the channel serves, while the 108 mm outlet pipe dictates the size of the waste connection required. The stainless steel construction resists corrosion from water and cleaning chemicals, and the welded seams prevent leaks between the channel and the surrounding floor.
Cleaning involves removing the grating, rinsing the channel interior, and clearing any debris from the siphon. The mesh grating itself can be washed separately to maintain flow and hygiene.
Variants include three edge profiles and two grating types, allowing the drain to be adapted to different floor materials and traffic conditions.
