Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
A floor drain collects wastewater from kitchen floors and directs it into the drainage system without pooling. The channel is sloped towards a central outlet, allowing liquid to flow by gravity. A siphon traps odours and debris, preventing them from rising back into the workspace while still allowing water to pass through. This design keeps the floor dry and hygienic, essential in areas where spills, cleaning water and food waste are frequent.
The operator installs the channel into the floor during construction or renovation, aligning it with the planned drainage point. Levelling pins on the side walls ensure the channel sits evenly, matching the surrounding floor surface. The edge profile is chosen to match the floor finish—standard, vinyl or tiled—so the transition is seamless and safe underfoot. Once the floor is laid, the grating is placed over the channel to cover the opening while allowing water to enter. The siphon is connected to a DN100 pipe, which carries wastewater to the main drainage line.
The channel is made of AISI 304 stainless steel, welded into a single hermetic unit. The steel thickness ranges from 0.8 to 2.0 mm, providing strength without adding unnecessary weight. The flat base slopes towards the outlet, ensuring water does not stagnate. The outlet is fitted with a siphon and a stainless steel pipe with an external diameter of 108 mm, ready for connection to the building's drainage system.
Controls are minimal: the grating can be lifted for inspection or cleaning, and the siphon can be removed if needed. The edge profile is selected at installation to match the floor type, and the levelling pins are adjusted to ensure the channel sits flush with the surrounding surface.
A size of 500 x 300 mm defines the area the drain covers on the floor, determining how much liquid it can collect at once. The central siphon position balances flow from both ends of the channel, reducing the risk of blockages. The DN100 outlet matches standard drainage pipe sizes, ensuring compatibility with existing systems in professional kitchens.
Cleaning involves removing the grating and rinsing the channel to clear debris. The siphon should be checked periodically to ensure it is not clogged, and the surrounding floor should be kept free of grease and food waste to prevent build-up. The stainless steel construction resists corrosion and can be cleaned with standard kitchen sanitising agents.
The drain is available with different edge profiles to suit vinyl or tiled floors, and optional gratings include smooth or anti-slip mesh in various sizes. These variants allow the drain to be adapted to the specific requirements of the kitchen environment, whether in a wet area, near a worktop or under heavy foot traffic.
This floor drain is categorised under drainage systems for professional catering environments, designed to handle the demands of commercial kitchens and food preparation areas.
