Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
A floor drain collects water from wet areas and directs it into the drainage system while blocking odours and debris. This one-piece channel forms a sealed, sloping tray that carries water to a central siphon. The siphon holds a water seal that prevents sewer gases from rising into the kitchen, and the slope ensures water flows without pooling.
The operator installs the channel in the floor so the outlet aligns with the building's waste pipe. Levelling pins on the side walls allow fine adjustment to match the finished floor height. Once the channel is set, the surrounding screed or adhesive is laid, and the chosen grating is fitted over the top. Water from cleaning, spills or equipment drains through the grating into the channel and down the siphon.
Construction is AISI 304 stainless steel, welded into a single hermetic unit. The steel thickness ranges from 0.8 mm to 2.0 mm, giving a balance of strength and weight. The flat channel has a built-in fall towards the outlet, so water moves by gravity without manual intervention. The outlet pipe is stainless steel, 108 mm external diameter, ending in a standard DN100 siphon.
Edge profiles are available to match different floor finishes: a standard profile, one for vinyl floors, and one for tiled floors. The grating is optional and can be ordered with a smooth or anti-slip mesh in various mesh sizes.
The 300 x 500 mm footprint determines the area the drain serves. A larger channel covers more floor space, reducing the number of separate drains needed in a wet room. The central siphon simplifies plumbing connections, as only one waste pipe is required for the entire channel.
Cleaning involves removing the grating and flushing the channel with water to clear debris. The welded construction has no corners or crevices where dirt can collect, and stainless steel resists corrosion from water and cleaning chemicals. The siphon should be checked periodically to ensure the water seal remains intact.
Variants include the three edge profiles and two grating types, allowing the drain to be matched to the floor finish and the level of foot traffic in the area.
