Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
A stainless steel drainage channel collects and directs wastewater across a kitchen floor to a central outlet, preventing standing water and slip hazards. The channel is a shallow, elongated trough installed level with the floor surface. Wastewater flows along the sloped base towards the siphon, where it is trapped to block odours and gases from rising back into the kitchen. The siphon connects to the building's drainage system, ensuring continuous removal without manual intervention.
The channel is laid in a straight run, typically along a worktop or beneath equipment that generates liquid waste. The operator positions the unit so the central siphon aligns with the existing drain pipe. Levelling pins on the side walls allow fine adjustment to match the surrounding floor height. Once secured, the chosen edge profile is fitted to bridge the gap between the channel and the floor finish, creating a seamless transition. A mesh grating is placed over the channel to support foot traffic and filter debris, while still allowing water to pass through.
Construction is a single, hermetically welded piece of AISI 304 stainless steel, 0.8 to 2.0 mm thick. The flat base slopes gently towards the outlet, ensuring water drains without pooling. The siphon is integrated at the midpoint, with a stainless steel pipe of 108 mm external diameter connecting to the building's DN100 drainage line.
Edge profiles are available for standard floors, vinyl flooring or tiled surfaces, allowing the channel to match the existing finish. Mesh gratings can be specified as smooth or anti-slip, with different mesh sizes to suit the kitchen's hygiene and safety requirements.
The 2500 mm length spans a typical worktop run or appliance bay, while the 300 mm width provides sufficient capacity for heavy liquid loads without taking excessive floor space. The central siphon simplifies installation by reducing the number of connection points to the drainage system.
Cleaning involves removing the grating and flushing the channel with water to clear debris. The smooth stainless steel surface resists staining and can be scrubbed with non-abrasive cleaners. The siphon should be checked periodically to ensure it remains free of blockages and maintains an effective odour seal.
The channel is supplied as a one-part unit, with optional edge profiles and gratings selected at the time of order. Custom lengths can be requested to fit specific kitchen layouts.
