Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
A floor drain collects water and debris from kitchen floors, directing them into the waste system while preventing odours from rising back through the outlet. The two-piece design separates the channel from the grating, allowing the channel to be embedded in the floor slab and the grating to sit flush with the finished surface. A central siphon traps water inside the pipe, creating a seal that blocks sewer gases without restricting flow. The channel is sloped towards the outlet so that water drains completely, reducing standing water and the risk of bacterial growth or slip hazards.
The operator installs the channel first, levelling it with the pins on the side walls so the fall to the outlet is even. Once the floor is waterproofed and finished, the grating is dropped into place. Water and solids flow across the grating, through the mesh and into the channel, where the slope carries them to the siphon and out through the DN100 pipe. The siphon remains filled with water, maintaining the seal between uses.
The channel is fabricated from AISI 304 stainless steel in thicknesses between 0.8 mm and 2.0 mm, welded into a single hermetic unit. The outlet pipe is the same grade of stainless steel, sized DN100 with an external diameter of 108 mm. Side walls include levelling pins to adjust the channel's position before the floor is poured, ensuring the correct fall is maintained across the full length.
Edge profiles are available to match the floor finish: a standard profile for general use, a low-profile version for vinyl floors, and a stepped profile for tiled floors. Each profile keeps the grating level with the surrounding surface, preventing trip hazards and allowing trolleys or carts to roll smoothly across the drain.
The 300 x 400 mm footprint fits between floor joists or beneath worktops without requiring structural alterations. The central siphon position balances flow from both ends of the channel, reducing the risk of blockages in longer runs. The unit is designed for watertight floors, preventing water from seeping beneath the slab and damaging the subfloor or adjacent rooms.
Cleaning involves lifting the grating and flushing the channel with hot water to remove debris. The siphon can be detached for deeper cleaning if grease or solids accumulate. The stainless steel construction resists corrosion from cleaning chemicals and does not require protective coatings or treatments.
Optional mesh gratings are available in smooth or anti-slip finishes, with different mesh sizes to control the size of debris that enters the drain. Anti-slip gratings reduce the risk of slips in wet areas, while finer meshes prevent small solids from entering the waste system and causing blockages downstream.
