Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
A floor drain collects and directs wastewater away from kitchen floors, preventing standing water and slip hazards. The two-piece design separates the channel from the grating, allowing the channel to be embedded in the floor slab while the grating sits flush with the finished surface. Wastewater flows along the sloped channel towards a central siphon, which traps odours and debris before the water enters the drainage pipe. This method keeps the kitchen floor dry and hygienic without mechanical parts or power.
The operator installs the channel first, levelling it with the pins on the side walls so the fall towards the outlet is even. Once the floor finish is laid, the grating is fitted into the channel rim. The siphon is connected to a DN100 pipe, and the joint is sealed to prevent leaks. During service, the grating is lifted to clear any debris from the siphon or channel.
The channel is made of AISI 304 stainless steel, welded into a single hermetic unit. Steel thickness ranges from 0.8 mm to 2.0 mm, giving the channel strength without adding unnecessary weight. The outlet pipe is also stainless steel, with an external diameter of 108 mm. Side walls include levelling pins to adjust the channel's position before the floor is poured.
Controls are limited to the grating: it can be removed for cleaning or replaced with a different mesh size or surface texture. Optional gratings include smooth or anti-slip finishes, and different mesh sizes to suit the volume of water or size of debris expected.
The 400 x 300 mm footprint fits into standard floor bays, leaving room for adjacent equipment or walkways. The central siphon position balances flow from both ends of the channel, reducing the risk of blockages. The DN100 outlet matches common drainage pipe sizes, avoiding the need for reducers or adaptors.
Cleaning involves lifting the grating and flushing the channel with water to remove sediment. The siphon should be checked regularly for trapped debris, and the outlet pipe inspected for blockages. The stainless steel surface resists corrosion and can be scrubbed with standard kitchen cleaning agents.
The drain is available with three edge profiles: standard, for vinyl floors, and for tiled floors. The unit is recommended for watertight floors, where waterproof membranes are installed beneath the surface.
Optional mesh gratings allow the drain to be tailored to the kitchen's needs: fine mesh for small debris, coarse mesh for heavy water flow, and anti-slip surfaces for wet areas.
