Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
A floor drain collects water from wet areas and directs it into the drainage system while blocking odours and debris. This two-piece channel drain sits flush with the floor, using a central siphon to trap water and create an air seal that prevents sewer gases from rising into the kitchen. The flat channel slopes gently towards the outlet, so water flows by gravity without pooling, even under heavy use from hoses, sinks or floor cleaning machines.
The operator lays the channel into a prepared floor recess, aligns the side walls with levelling pins, and connects the DN100 outlet pipe to the building's waste line. Once the floor finish is applied around the edges, the chosen grating—smooth or anti-slip—is dropped into place to cover the channel and allow foot traffic. During daily cleaning, the grating lifts out for access to the channel interior, while the siphon remains fixed to the outlet pipe to maintain the odour seal.
Construction is AISI 304 stainless steel throughout, welded into a single hermetic channel. Side walls range from 0.8 mm to 2.0 mm thick, giving the unit strength to support foot traffic and equipment loads. The drain is supplied with a standard edge profile; optional profiles match vinyl or tiled floors, so the channel blends seamlessly with the surrounding finish. An external pipe diameter of 108 mm on the DN100 outlet ensures compatibility with standard drainage fittings in commercial kitchens.
The 500 mm by 300 mm footprint fits into a compact floor recess, making it suitable for tight spaces beneath worktops or near hobs where larger drains would not fit. The central siphon position keeps the outlet clear of walls and equipment, simplifying pipe routing. Stainless steel construction resists corrosion from water, cleaning chemicals and food acids, so the drain maintains its appearance and function over years of use.
Cleaning involves removing the grating, rinsing the channel with hot water, and brushing away any debris that has collected on the sloped floor. The siphon is flushed separately to clear trapped solids, ensuring the water seal remains effective. No additional maintenance is required beyond routine cleaning.
Variants include three edge profiles—standard, vinyl and tiled—and two grating types: smooth or anti-slip mesh in different mesh sizes. The drain is recommended for watertight floors in professional kitchens, food production areas and wash-down zones.
