Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
A floor drain collects water from washing down worktops, hobs and floors in a professional kitchen. The two-piece design separates the channel that catches the water from the grating that carries foot traffic. Water runs across the sloped channel into a central siphon, which traps odours and debris before the water enters the drainage pipe. The siphon's central position keeps the flow even and prevents standing water in the channel.
The operator lays the channel into the prepared floor recess, adjusts the levelling pins on the side walls to match the finished floor height, and seals the joint to make the floor watertight. The grating is placed on top and can be lifted for cleaning. The channel's flat base slopes towards the outlet, so water drains completely without pooling.
The channel and siphon are made of AISI 304 stainless steel, welded into a single hermetic unit. The steel thickness ranges from 0.8 mm to 2.0 mm, giving the channel strength to support the weight of kitchen trolleys and staff. The outlet pipe is stainless steel, 108 mm in external diameter, and connects to a standard DN100 drainage system.
The drain is supplied with a choice of edge profiles to suit different floor finishes: standard, vinyl or tiled. The size can be adjusted between 300 mm and 500 mm in both length and width, allowing the unit to fit the space available in the kitchen floor. The recommended use is on watertight floors where water must not seep beneath the surface.
Optional mesh gratings are available in smooth or anti-slip finishes and in different mesh sizes. The mesh size determines how much debris passes through and how easily the grating can be cleaned.
The product is listed in the BHS-G catalogue under floor drainage for professional catering environments.
