Floor drains efficiently remove water from surfaces, directing it to the sewage system. Commonly used in kitchens, food processing, and hospitals, they often need to be stainless steel for hygiene standards. In restaurant kitchens, they are crucial near boiling pans to manage cleaning water. Proper drainage enhances safety by reducing the risk of accidents from hot liquids and other hazards.
A floor drain collects water and debris from kitchen floors, directing them into the drainage system while blocking odours. The two-piece design separates the channel from the grating, allowing the grating to be lifted for cleaning without disturbing the sealed channel beneath. A central siphon traps water inside, creating a barrier that prevents sewer gases from rising into the kitchen. The channel is sloped towards the outlet, so water flows quickly and does not pool on the floor.
The operator positions the channel against the floor outlet, levels it using the side pins, and seals the edges to the surrounding floor finish. Once the floor is laid, the chosen grating is dropped into the channel, ready to catch debris while letting water pass through. Different edge profiles match the floor material—standard for general use, a thinner edge for vinyl, and a stepped edge for tiled floors—so the drain sits flush and the floor remains watertight.
Constructed from AISI 304 stainless steel, the channel is welded into a single hermetic unit. The steel gauge ranges from 0.8 mm to 2.0 mm, giving the channel strength without adding unnecessary weight. The outlet pipe is stainless steel with an external diameter of 108 mm, ending in a siphon that connects to a DN100 drainage line.
The size of 300 mm by 300 mm determines the area the drain can serve; a larger kitchen may need multiple drains spaced evenly across the floor. The watertight design suits areas where water must not seep beneath the floor, such as commercial kitchens and food preparation zones.
Cleaning involves lifting the grating to remove debris, then flushing the channel with water to clear any remaining particles. The welded construction means there are no joints to trap dirt, and the stainless steel resists corrosion from water and cleaning chemicals.
Edge profiles are available for standard, vinyl and tiled floors, allowing the drain to match the surrounding finish. Optional gratings include smooth or anti-slip mesh in different mesh sizes, so the operator can choose the balance between drainage speed and foot safety.
