A kidney-shaped gastronorm container standardises the space between prep, storage and service in a professional kitchen. The curved front and tapered sides fit the natural sweep of a worktop or bain-marie, letting staff slide food in and out without wasted motion. The GN1/2 footprint—half the width of a full-size gastronorm tray—allows two containers to sit side by side on a single shelf or hob, doubling the usable area without increasing the overall width.

The container holds food in a single, shallow layer. This shape and depth spread ingredients evenly, so heat or chill reaches every portion at the same rate. In a hot cupboard or chilled display, the low profile speeds temperature transfer, keeping food safe and service-ready. The same principle applies when the container is used for marinating or proofing: the wide surface area exposes more of the contents to the surrounding environment, shortening the time needed.

To use, place the container on a compatible shelf, trolley or bain-marie. Load ingredients up to the rim, leaving a small margin for expansion if the food will be heated. Slide the container into position; the standardised rim interlocks with the supporting frame, preventing spills during movement. When service is complete, lift the container straight out for cleaning or storage. The kidney shape also allows two containers to be nested edge-to-edge, saving space when they are not in use.

The container is made of stainless steel, chosen for its resistance to corrosion, staining and high temperatures. The material does not absorb flavours or odours, so each container can be used for multiple types of food without cross-contamination. The surface is smooth, with no seams or crevices that could trap debris, making it straightforward to clean by hand or in a commercial dishwasher.

The 65 mm depth provides enough volume for a single layer of most ingredients without stacking, which would slow heat transfer. The 2.1 L capacity is sufficient for a single portion or a small batch, keeping food fresh and portion-controlled. The GN1/2 footprint fits standard gastronorm racks, trolleys and bain-maries, ensuring compatibility across the kitchen.

Cleaning is limited to the parts named: the stainless-steel body and rim. Wash with warm water and detergent, using a non-abrasive cloth to avoid scratching the surface. For stubborn residues, a mild abrasive pad may be used, but avoid steel wool, which can leave particles that rust. After washing, rinse thoroughly and dry to prevent water spots. The container is dishwasher-safe, but hand drying will extend its finish.

This container is placed in the catalogue under Gastronorm Containers, in the section for GN1/2 sizes and kidney shapes.
