Mechanical/ Polypropylene Fiber/ String Wound
Suitable: All ice machines
A sediment filter traps solid particles suspended in water before they reach taps, ice machines or combi ovens. The ICE TECH Sediment Filter FP uses a fine mesh or pleated cartridge that forces water through its walls, catching debris while allowing clean water to pass. This prevents clogged valves, scaled heat exchangers and cloudy ice, keeping equipment running longer and water clear.
Water enters the filter housing under mains pressure. It flows through the 5 micron cartridge, which blocks sand, rust, scale and other particulates. The filtered water continues to the appliance, while the trapped sediment stays inside the cartridge until it is replaced. No moving parts are involved; the process relies on the cartridge's porosity and the pressure of the supply.
To use the filter, fit it in-line on the cold-water feed to the appliance. Turn off the water, open a downstream tap to release pressure, unscrew the housing, remove the old cartridge, insert the new one, and reassemble. The housing is transparent or has a pressure gauge so the operator can see when the cartridge is saturated and needs changing.
The filter housing is made of food-grade plastic or stainless steel, depending on the model variant. The cartridge itself is disposable, constructed from pleated polypropylene or wound string that provides a large surface area for trapping particles without restricting flow.
The 5 micron rating means the filter captures particles as small as five millionths of a metre. This stops grit that would otherwise scratch taps, block spray nozzles or settle in storage tanks, but it does not remove dissolved minerals, bacteria or chemicals. For those, a separate treatment stage is required.
The filter is designed to fit standard water lines in commercial kitchens and is compatible with most ICE TECH water-fed appliances. It is also used as a pre-filter for reverse osmosis systems, coffee machines and post-mix dispensers.
Cleaning involves replacing the cartridge when flow slows or the pressure drop exceeds the gauge's recommended level. No back-flushing or scrubbing is needed; the old cartridge is discarded and a new one installed. The housing should be wiped clean with a damp cloth to remove any sediment that has settled on its surfaces.
Variants include housings with different thread sizes and pressure ratings to suit various water systems. The same 5 micron cartridge is used across all models.
