A mechanical timer governs the ice-production cycle in commercial icemakers by opening and closing electrical contacts at set intervals. Four cams, each cut to a precise profile, rotate on a common shaft driven by a synchronous motor. As the cams turn, they lift and lower spring-loaded levers that make or break the power to the compressor, water valve and harvest solenoid. The sequence of on and off times determines how long the machine fills, freezes and ejects each batch, ensuring consistent ice shape and yield without manual intervention.
To set the timer, the operator turns the knurled control knob clockwise until the pointer aligns with the desired start mark on the dial. The synchronous motor then advances the cams at a fixed speed, cycling through fill, freeze and harvest phases in a repeating 12-minute programme. Each cam controls one phase, so the relative duration of fill, freeze and harvest can be adjusted by replacing individual cams with ones of different profiles. The fourth cam typically manages a safety or purge interval.
The timer is housed in a pressed-steel enclosure with a clear polycarbonate cover that protects the cams and contacts while allowing visual confirmation of the cycle stage. Electrical connections are made via screw terminals on the rear panel, and the unit mounts directly into the icemaker's control compartment with two M4 screws.
The 230 V 50/60 Hz rating matches the mains supply used in British commercial kitchens, so the timer connects to a standard single-phase circuit without additional transformers or adapters. The absence of a fixed plug allows direct wiring into the icemaker's internal loom, reducing connection points and potential failure.
Cleaning is limited to occasional dusting of the cover and inspection of the contacts for pitting or corrosion. The synchronous motor requires no lubrication, and the cams are self-lubricating nylon to prevent wear.
This timer is a direct replacement for the 4-cam 12-minute cycle unit used in the listed BREMA, EMMEPI, FAGOR, LUXIA and NTF icemaker models. It is catalogued under spare parts for refrigeration controls.
