A pasta cooker basket holds dry pasta beneath boiling water, letting the strands or shapes cook evenly without sticking to the bottom of the vat. The perforated base allows water to circulate freely around each piece, while the raised edges keep the pasta contained and make it easy to lift the entire batch at once. This method prevents overcrowding, which would lower the water temperature and slow the cooking, and it also lets the operator remove the pasta quickly when it reaches the desired firmness, stopping the process before it turns soft or mushy.
To use the basket, the operator fills the pasta cooker with water, brings it to a rolling boil, and then lowers the empty basket into the vat. Dry pasta is added to the basket, the timer is set, and the basket is left submerged until the pasta is al dente. When the time is up, the basket is lifted out, draining the water back into the cooker, and the pasta is tipped directly onto a serving tray or into a holding container.
The basket is constructed from stainless steel, chosen for its resistance to corrosion, its ability to withstand repeated exposure to boiling water, and its durability under the weight of a full load of pasta. The dimensions of 145 mm in length, 160 mm in width and 215 mm in height give it a compact footprint that fits inside standard pasta cooker vats while still holding enough pasta for a busy service period.
Cleaning is straightforward: after each use, the basket is rinsed under hot water to remove any starch residue, then scrubbed with a non-abrasive pad if necessary. Stainless steel does not absorb odours or flavours, so the basket can be used for different types of pasta without cross-contamination. Regular inspection of the perforations ensures that no food particles remain trapped, maintaining hygiene and consistent cooking performance.
