A popcorn maker heats maize kernels in a sealed kettle until the internal pressure bursts the hull, turning each kernel into a light, edible puff. The kettle sits over a heating element that raises the temperature quickly and evenly, while a motor stirs the kernels to prevent scorching and ensure every one pops. The finished popcorn is released into a warming base that keeps it at serving temperature without further cooking, so each batch stays fresh and crisp until it is portioned out.
The FunPop is loaded by lifting the kettle, pouring in the measured maize and oil, then lowering it onto the heating element. The operator sets the timer and starts the cycle; the motor begins stirring and the element heats the kettle. After approximately three minutes the popping slows and the machine automatically opens the kettle, releasing the popcorn into the warming base beneath. A warming lamp above the base illuminates the product, keeping it visible and attractive while the next batch is prepared.
The casing is stainless steel with a red painted finish. The kettle is also stainless steel, uncoated and removable for cleaning. A warming base and warming lamp are built in.
The controls consist of a power switch, a timer dial and a start button. The power switch energises the unit, the timer dial sets the duration of the heating cycle, and the start button initiates the programme.
The 230 V/50 Hz voltage requirement matches the standard single-phase supply in British commercial kitchens, allowing the unit to be plugged into any suitable wall socket without additional wiring. The 0.688 kW power rating indicates a modest electrical load, so the FunPop can run alongside other equipment on the same circuit without overloading it. The 17 kg weight means the unit can be moved by one person using a trolley, but is stable enough to stay in place during operation. The 450 mm × 450 mm footprint fits on most worktops or mobile stands, leaving space for portioning and serving.
Cleaning involves removing the kettle, washing it in hot soapy water, rinsing and drying it before replacing it. The warming base and casing can be wiped down with a damp cloth and mild detergent. The warming lamp should be switched off and allowed to cool before any cleaning.
The FunPop produces approximately four standard portions in three minutes, with each portion equivalent to 1 oz (28.35 g) of unpopped maize.
