A light pilot kit provides the small, continuous flame that ignites the main gas burner in professional catering appliances. Without this pilot flame, the burner would not light reliably or safely. The kit contains a pilot burner assembly, a thermocouple and an ignition electrode. When the operator opens the gas valve, the pilot burner receives a small flow of gas. The electrode sparks, lighting the pilot flame. The thermocouple senses the heat and holds the gas valve open, allowing the main burner to light. If the pilot flame goes out, the thermocouple cools and shuts the gas valve automatically, preventing unburned gas from escaping.
To use the kit, the operator first ensures the appliance is switched off and the gas supply is isolated. The old pilot assembly is removed and the new kit fitted in its place, following the appliance's service manual. The gas supply is restored and the appliance switched on. The operator then holds the ignition button until the pilot flame lights steadily. Once the thermocouple is heated, the button can be released and the main burner will light when the control knob is turned to the desired setting.
The kit is a direct replacement part for specified PIRON professional catering equipment. It is designed to fit the gas train and ignition system of those models only. Installation should be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer to ensure compliance with safety regulations and to maintain the appliance's certification.
As a spare part, the light pilot kit carries no separate specifications of its own; its dimensions, materials and performance are determined by the appliance it fits. The kit is listed in the catering spares section of the catalogue, under ignition and safety components for gas appliances.
