Electromechanical ice cream maker with manual extraction
- : STAFF Ice system 1959
- Article number: BTM10A
An electromechanical batch freezer churns a liquid mix into ice cream by freezing it while stirring. A refrigeration unit cools the vertical cylinder from the outside, and a motor-driven mixer scrapes the frozen layer off the walls and folds it back into the mix. This constant movement incorporates air, prevents large ice crystals and gives the ice cream its smooth texture.
The operator pours the prepared mix into the cylinder through the double lid, closes the cover and starts the cycle. While the machine runs, the transparent vertical cylinder lets the operator watch the mix thicken. If extra ingredients such as fruit or nuts are needed, the double lid can be opened without stopping the motor. Once the desired consistency is reached, the operator stops the machine, opens the drain tap beneath the cylinder and dispenses the finished ice cream directly into serving containers.
The BTM10 A is built around a food-safe stainless steel cylinder and a polyethylene-lined mixer that reduces friction. A micromagnetic interlock cuts power to the motor the instant the cover is opened, preventing accidental contact with moving parts. The outer casing has rounded edges and is shaped to direct any condensation straight to a water drain under the cylinder, keeping the worktop dry.
Controls are minimal: a start button, a stop button and a timer that sets the length of the churning cycle. The 230 V single-phase supply plugs into a standard UK kitchen circuit, and the 45 kg weight allows two people to move the unit without a trolley.
All parts that touch the mix are made of non-toxic stainless steel, and the mixer assembly can be removed for cleaning. The air-defrost system circulates room-temperature air over the refrigeration coils, eliminating the need for manual defrosting.
The freezer produces up to 2 litres of ice cream in a single cycle and can run continuously to yield 10 litres per hour. Its footprint of 435 mm by 570 mm fits on most worktops or under low shelves.
