Stainless steel potato masher with a 300 mm length. Durable construction for efficient mashing of potatoes and other cooked vegetables. Dishwasher safe.
A round potato masher breaks down cooked vegetables by pressing them through a perforated disc. The disc's holes create even, lump-free mash without tearing the fibres, so the result stays smooth rather than stringy. The long handle gives the operator leverage, letting the weight of the arm do most of the work instead of the wrist. This method is faster than a ricer and gentler than a whisk, making it the standard tool for mashed potatoes, parsnips, swede and other root vegetables in professional kitchens.
The operator holds the handle in one hand and presses the disc down into the pan with a steady, vertical motion. The disc spreads the pressure across the food, so each stroke covers a wide area and the work is finished in fewer passes. Once the pan is empty, the masher is lifted clear and the mash is ready to serve or to be finished with butter, cream or seasoning.
The masher is a single piece of stainless steel, so there are no joints or seams where food can lodge. The disc is solid and the handle is straight, giving the whole tool a smooth profile that cleans easily under running water or in a commercial dishwasher. Stainless steel does not absorb flavours, does not corrode and does not react with acidic foods, so the masher stays hygienic and keeps its finish through repeated use.
The 300 mm length lets the operator keep hands clear of hot pans and gives enough reach to work in deep stock pots without leaning over the rim. The weight of the steel adds momentum to each stroke, reducing the effort needed to mash large batches.
After use, the masher can be rinsed and placed in a dishwasher rack or washed by hand with standard kitchen detergent. There are no moving parts or hidden crevices, so cleaning is quick and thorough.
The Stalgast 300 mm round potato masher is listed in the kitchen hand tools section of the professional catering catalogue.
