A bar spoon is the long-handled tool that lets the operator stir drinks without splashing and layer ingredients by letting them flow gently down the twisted stem. The length keeps the hand clear of the rim, the twist helps lift and separate liquids of different densities, and the small bowl at the tip gathers just enough liquid to carry it across the glass without spilling.
To use the spoon, the operator holds the twisted stem between thumb and forefinger, lowers the bowl into the drink, and rotates the stem with a gentle rolling motion. The twist in the stem converts the rolling into a smooth stirring action that blends without aerating. For layered drinks, the spoon is rested against the inside of the glass and the next ingredient is poured slowly over the back of the bowl so it slides down the stem and settles beneath the layer already in the glass.
The spoon is made in one piece of polished stainless steel, 280 mm long. The length gives the reach needed across tall mixing glasses and shakers, while the stainless steel construction resists corrosion from juices, syrups and spirits and can be sterilised in commercial dishwashers.
The 280 mm length is chosen to suit standard mixing glasses and Boston shakers used in professional bars, giving the operator enough leverage to stir effectively without the spoon being cumbersome behind the bar.
After use, the spoon is rinsed under running water to remove sugars and acids, then placed in the utensil basket of a commercial dishwasher for thorough cleaning and sanitising.
