A 160 mm colander made of chrome-plated steel. Large perforations ensure fast liquid drainage, while the long handle allows safe handling of hot food.
A slotted spoon lifts food from hot liquids while letting the liquid drain away through the perforations. The bowl of the spoon holds the food securely, and the slots allow oil, water or stock to flow back into the pan or fryer without carrying the food with it. This keeps fried items crisp, boiled items intact and sauces free of unwanted debris. The process is faster than fishing food out with a solid spoon and then transferring it to a colander, and it leaves the cooking liquid in the pan for reuse or reduction.
The operator lowers the spoon into the liquid, slides it under the food and lifts it clear. The perforations let the liquid stream out, leaving the food on the spoon ready to be tipped onto a plate, into a serving dish or back into the pan for further cooking. The long handle keeps the operator's hand well clear of steam, splashes and hot oil, reducing the risk of burns and making it easier to reach the bottom of deep pots and fryers.
The bowl is made of chrome-plated steel, which resists corrosion and stands up to daily use in a busy kitchen. The plating gives a smooth, non-reactive surface that does not affect the flavour or colour of the food. The handle is the same steel, giving a single-piece construction that does not loosen or break at the joint.
The diameter of 160 mm gives a wide surface for scooping larger items such as whole fish fillets, large pasta shapes or batches of vegetables. The length of 470 mm allows the spoon to reach the bottom of deep stock pots and industrial fryers without the operator having to lean over the rim. The weight of the spoon is light enough for comfortable use over long periods, yet heavy enough to feel solid and controlled in the hand.
Cleaning is straightforward: the smooth chrome surface does not trap food particles, and the perforations allow water to flow through freely. After use, the spoon is rinsed under running water, wiped with a cloth or brush if necessary, and left to air-dry. The chrome plating does not rust, so the spoon can be stored wet without damage.
