A down hinge axis provides the vertical pivot point that lets a refrigeration door swing open and closed without lifting. Instead of a conventional side-mounted hinge, the door rotates around a central spindle fixed at the top and bottom of the cabinet. This arrangement keeps the door aligned, reduces side loads on the frame and allows a tighter seal when the door is shut.
The axis itself is a metal rod or spindle that runs through the door's vertical edge. At the top and bottom, the spindle sits in bearing cups or sockets that hold it in place while allowing free rotation. When the door is opened, the entire weight of the door transfers through the spindle to the bearing points, so the axis must be strong enough to carry the load without bending or wearing.
To replace a down hinge axis, the door is first removed from the cabinet. The old spindle is slid out of the bearing cups and the new axis is inserted in its place. The door is then rehung on the new spindle, ensuring the bearing cups at top and bottom are correctly seated. Once the door is back in position, the hinge should allow smooth, even movement without binding or sagging.
This Tefcold down hinge axis is manufactured to match the original equipment specifications for Tefcold refrigeration units. It is supplied as a single spindle without additional fittings or hardware.
The part fits Tefcold professional refrigeration and freezer cabinets that use a down-hung door design.
