Tamper, ⌀58x(H)95mm
A coffee tamper compresses ground coffee evenly inside a portafilter basket, creating a level bed that water passes through at the same rate. Without this pressure, water finds the easiest path, leaving some grounds untouched and others over-extracted. The tamper's flat base and calibrated weight press the coffee into a compact puck that resists channeling, so every particle contributes to the flavour and crema.
To use, fill the portafilter basket with the measured dose of ground coffee. Place the tamper on top, aligning the base with the rim of the basket. Apply steady downward pressure until the coffee is level and firm. Lift the tamper straight up to avoid disturbing the surface. The portafilter is now ready to lock into the espresso machine.
The tamper is made from 18/8 stainless steel, a corrosion-resistant alloy that does not react with coffee oils or cleaning agents. The base is 58 mm in diameter, matching the standard basket size for most commercial portafilters. A wooden handle is fitted to the steel body, providing a secure grip and insulating the hand from the metal during repeated use.
The 95 mm height allows the operator to hold the handle comfortably without the fingers touching the portafilter. The 0.38 kg weight gives enough mass to tamp without excessive force, reducing strain on the wrist and shoulder over a long shift.
Cleaning is limited to wiping the steel base with a damp cloth after each use to remove coffee residue. The wooden handle should be kept dry to prevent swelling or cracking. No disassembly is required, and the tamper can be stored in a drawer or on a worktop when not in use.
This model fits most commercial espresso machines that accept 58 mm portafilters.
