GN1/2 gastronorm containers standardise the size of food pans across professional kitchens. Their oval shape allows them to fit into bain-maries, hot cupboards and refrigerated counters that accept the GN1/2 footprint, while the curved sides make it easier to portion and serve sauces, pasta or vegetables without corners trapping food.
The container holds food during storage, transport and service. It slides into gastronorm-compatible racks, shelves and wells, so the same pan can move from a prep table to a chilled display or a hot-holding unit without transferring the contents. The oval form also reduces the space needed on a worktop or in a cupboard compared with a rectangular pan of the same volume.
To use, fill the container with prepared food, cover if required, and place it into any GN1/2-compatible appliance. The 65 mm depth gives enough room for shallow layers of food without stacking, which keeps portions consistent and speeds reheating or chilling. When service is finished, the container is removed, emptied and cleaned.
These BHS containers are made of stainless steel, which resists corrosion, does not absorb odours and withstands repeated washing at high temperatures. The material also conducts heat evenly, so food stays at the correct temperature whether the pan is in a hot cupboard or a refrigerated counter.
The 2.1 litre volume allows the container to hold single portions or small batches of food, making it suitable for side dishes, sauces or garnishes in a busy kitchen. The GN1/2 size fits standard gastronorm racks, trolleys and serving counters, ensuring compatibility with most professional catering equipment.
Cleaning involves washing the container in hot water with detergent, rinsing and drying. Stainless steel can be sanitised in a commercial dishwasher, and its smooth surface prevents food particles from sticking, reducing scrubbing time.
