| NOTES | place for ice/ ice packs |
A compact worktop organiser designed to keep ingredients chilled without a refrigeration unit. The O123Z holds ice or ice packs in a dedicated section, creating a cool zone that slows spoilage for perishable items like herbs, seafood or dairy. The principle relies on conduction: the ice absorbs heat from the surrounding air and from the food containers placed next to it, maintaining a lower temperature than the ambient kitchen. Because the unit has no moving parts or power supply, it provides a simple, portable solution for short-term chilling where a full refrigerator would be impractical or wasteful.
The organiser is loaded by placing ice or sealed ice packs into the designated compartment. Food containers are then positioned in the two adjacent 0.47 litre spaces, ensuring they sit directly against the chilled surface for maximum contact. The operator monitors the ice level and replaces it as it melts, typically every two to three hours in a busy kitchen. When the service period ends, the remaining ice is removed, and the containers are taken out for cleaning or storage.
Construction is a single moulded unit in food-safe plastic, chosen for light weight and resistance to moisture. The material does not absorb odours and can be wiped down quickly between uses. The dimensions of 170 mm deep, 202 mm wide and 200 mm high allow it to sit on a standard worktop or shelf without overhang, while the two 0.47 litre compartments provide enough space for small containers of garnishes, sauces or prepped ingredients.
Cleaning is limited to the parts the entry names: the main body and the two food compartments. After each use, the unit is emptied, wiped with a damp cloth and left to air-dry. No disassembly is required, and no special chemicals are needed beyond standard kitchen sanitiser.
The O123Z is categorised as a counter-top organiser within the BHS range, offering a non-powered alternative to refrigerated holding units for short-term ingredient storage.
