A table scale measures ingredients and portions directly on the worktop without moving them to a separate station. It converts the downward force of the load into an electrical signal that the display shows as weight. The method is fast, repeatable and unaffected by vibration from nearby equipment, making it the standard for kitchen weighing where space is limited and speed matters.

The operator places a container on the platform, presses the tare button to zero the reading, then adds the ingredient until the display shows the required weight. The scale holds the reading while the ingredient is used or transferred, then resets for the next item. A stable, level surface is essential; the scale compensates for minor unevenness but cannot correct for a sloping worktop.

The SD2 is built as a single unit with a stainless-steel platform and a plastic base. The platform measures 230 mm square, giving enough room for standard gastronorm containers and mixing bowls. The base tapers to 190 mm at the rear, allowing the scale to sit close to a wall or splash-back without overhanging the worktop edge. Overall height is 150 mm, low enough to slide under wall cupboards when not in use.

An LCD screen shows the weight in kilograms and grams. The scale reads to 1/2 g, letting the operator measure small quantities of spices, additives and plating ingredients without switching to a smaller unit. Maximum capacity is 6 kg, covering everything from single portions to bulk ingredients for batch production.

Power comes from either a built-in rechargeable battery or a mains adaptor. The battery allows the scale to be moved around the kitchen or taken to a service area; the mains supply removes the need to monitor charge during long service periods. The scale switches automatically between sources when the adaptor is connected.

The unit weighs 3 kg, light enough to be carried by one person but heavy enough to stay in place during use. The footprint of 230 x 230 mm takes up minimal worktop space, and the low profile keeps the centre of gravity close to the surface, reducing the risk of tipping.

Cleaning is limited to wiping the platform and base with a damp cloth. The LCD screen should be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth to avoid liquid ingress. The scale should be stored in a dry cupboard when not in use to protect the electronics from steam and splashes.
