A professional weighing scale measures ingredients, portions and finished dishes with consistent precision, removing guesswork from recipes and costing. The BHS SGR 30 kg scale uses a strain-gauge load cell beneath the platform: when weight is applied, the cell deforms microscopically, changing its electrical resistance. An internal circuit converts that change into a digital signal, which the scale displays on an LCD screen. This method gives fast, repeatable readings without moving parts that can wear or jam.
To use the scale, place it on a level worktop away from draughts and heat sources. Connect the power supply—either a built-in battery or the included mains adaptor. Press the power button; the display lights and the scale performs a self-test. Place an empty container on the platform; press the tare button to zero the display, removing the container's weight from the total. Add the ingredient until the desired weight appears. For batch work, tare again between each portion. When finished, switch off the scale and store it in a dry cupboard.
The scale is built on a single aluminium platform 204 mm deep and 263 mm wide, giving a compact footprint that fits between a hob and a prep sink. The LCD display sits flush with the platform, protected by a clear plastic window. A single membrane keypad holds the power and tare buttons, keeping the surface smooth for easy cleaning.
The 5/10 g readability means the scale can measure small quantities like spices or baking powder to the nearest 5 g, and larger quantities like flour or meat to the nearest 10 g. The 30 kg maximum capacity allows it to weigh full gastronorm trays or bulk ingredients without overloading. The 30 kg tare capacity lets the operator zero the scale with heavy containers or multiple dishes already in place.
Power is supplied by either a standard battery or the included mains adaptor, so the scale can be moved to a satellite prep station or kept on a fixed worktop without trailing cables. The 0.007 kW power rating draws minimal current, avoiding the need for a dedicated circuit.
Clean the scale after each service. Wipe the platform and display window with a damp cloth and mild detergent; avoid abrasives that can scratch the aluminium or the plastic. Do not immerse the scale or spray liquid directly onto the keypad. Check the battery compartment monthly and replace the battery if corrosion appears. Store the scale in its original box or a padded case to protect the load cell from shocks that could shift its calibration.
