A counting scale measures identical items by weight rather than by hand. It divides the total weight on the platform by the weight of a single piece, displaying the number of items instead of the mass. This method eliminates manual counting errors, speeds up stock checks and portioning, and keeps consistency across large batches of ingredients like pasta, vegetables or pre-portioned meats.
The operator places a sample of the items on the platform and enters the weight of one piece, or lets the scale calculate it from a known quantity. The scale then shows how many identical items are present whenever the platform is loaded. A tare function subtracts the weight of containers or trays, so only the contents are counted.
To use the BHS SLC15, switch the scale on with the power button. Place an empty container on the platform and press the tare key to zero the display. Add the items to be counted, and the scale will show the total number once the single-piece weight has been set or calculated. The LCD screen remains clearly visible under kitchen lighting, and the low-profile platform allows easy loading from trays or bowls.
The scale is built with a stainless-steel weighing platform and a plastic housing. It can be powered by either a built-in rechargeable battery or a mains adapter, so it works on worktops without a nearby socket or in areas where trailing cables are impractical.
The controls include power, tare, and mode selection for counting or weighing. The tare button resets the display to zero with a container in place, while the mode button switches between counting and direct weight readout.
A maximum capacity of 15 kg allows the scale to handle full gastronorm trays of ingredients without overloading. The 2/5 g readability ensures accurate counts of small items like beans or rice, while the 4.2 kg unit weight makes it easy to move between prep stations. The footprint of 304 x 324 mm fits on most worktops, and the low height of 112 mm keeps the centre of gravity stable during loading.
Cleaning involves wiping the stainless-steel platform with a damp cloth and mild detergent after use. The housing can be cleaned with a damp cloth but should not be submerged. The scale should be stored in a dry area when not in use to protect the electronics.
The SLC15 is a single model with no variants. It is categorised under professional weighing equipment for catering and food production.
