Rose of Orient is a loose leaf green tea blend that combines the freshness of Chinese Sencha, Gunpowder and Pai Mu Tan with the delicate fragrance of rosebuds, marigold and cornflower blossoms. The blend is designed for a single infusion that extracts both the vegetal notes of the tea leaves and the floral aroma of the blossoms without bitterness or astringency.
Green tea leaves release their flavour and antioxidants when steeped in water just below boiling point. The lower temperature preserves the lighter, more aromatic compounds that would be lost at higher heat. A two-minute infusion is sufficient to draw out the full character of the blend: the grassy depth of Sencha, the slight smokiness of Gunpowder, the smoothness of Pai Mu Tan and the sweet perfume of rose and cornflower.
To prepare the tea, measure one teaspoon of the loose leaves per cup into a pre-warmed teapot or infuser. Heat fresh water to 90 °C—just before it reaches a rolling boil—and pour it over the leaves. Allow the tea to steep for exactly two minutes, then strain and serve. The leaves can be re-infused once, though the second cup will be milder and less floral.
The blend contains green tea from China—Sencha, Gunpowder, Fog Tea and Pai Mu Tan—together with jasmine, rosebuds, marigold blossoms and cornflower blossoms. The ingredients are selected for visual appeal as well as flavour, creating a cup that is both aromatic and colourful.
The 100 g pack is a resealable foil pouch that keeps the leaves fresh and protects them from light and moisture. Once opened, store the pouch in a cool, dry cupboard away from strong odours.
