Electric cooktop with 4 cast iron hotplates, featuring a stainless steel construction and a locking system.
An electric hob heats pans by conduction from solid hotplates. Each cast iron plate is heated by an embedded element; the iron holds and spreads the heat evenly across its surface, so the pan receives steady, direct contact heat without hot spots. The hob's power is delivered in seven distinct settings, allowing the operator to match the heat to the task—gentle simmering, rapid boiling or sustained frying—without cycling the element on and off. A temperature limiter prevents the plate from exceeding a safe maximum, protecting both the hob and the cookware from damage.
To use the hob, the operator places a pan on one of the four round cast iron plates and selects the desired power setting with the IPX5-rated rotary knob. The knob is water-resistant, so it can be wiped clean without risk of electrical fault. Once the setting is chosen, the plate heats to the corresponding temperature; the operator monitors the food and adjusts the setting as needed. After cooking, the plate remains hot for a period, so the hob should be left to cool before cleaning. The splash guard at the rear catches grease and liquids, reducing the spread of mess across the worktop.
The hob is built from 18/10 CrNi stainless steel, a grade that resists corrosion and staining in a busy kitchen. The worktop is 1 mm thick, with rounded edges to prevent cuts and dents. Chrome-plated components add durability and ease of cleaning. Adjustable feet allow the hob to be levelled on uneven floors, and a locking system secures it in place once positioned. Tray runners with locking stops hold pans steady, preventing accidental tipping during stirring or lifting.
The 6 kW power rating means the hob draws a substantial load, requiring a dedicated circuit in a professional kitchen. The voltage options—230 V single-phase or 400 V three-phase—allow it to be installed in most commercial electrical systems. At 27 kg, the hob is heavy enough to stay stable during use but light enough to be moved by two people. The 600x600 mm footprint fits standard worktop cut-outs, making it compatible with most kitchen layouts.
Cleaning involves wiping the stainless steel surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive pads that could scratch the Scotch-Brite satin finish. The cast iron plates should be cleaned when cool, using a soft brush to remove food debris from the sealing rings. The IPX5-rated knobs can be rinsed under a tap, but the hob should be disconnected from the power supply first. The splash guard and tray runners are removable for thorough cleaning.
The PCT-66ET is a four-plate electric hob with cast iron hotplates; a glass ceramic version is also available, which includes a residual heat indicator for added safety. This model is categorised under professional hobs in the LOTUS catalogue.
